Recruiting around the holidays, a good idea or not?

Every year there are a number of key moments when employees take a closer look at their careers. During these moments, employees are more willing to change employers. These moments occur right after the summer holidays and towards the end of the year.

These are the periods in which people get out of their normal rhythm. People are not busy with the madness of the day and have the time and peace to evaluate the past year. People think about good intentions for the new year. This also includes the ambition to make career steps. “Isn’t it time for a new challenge? Shouldn’t I step out of my comfort zone? Am I still in the right place? Where do I want to be in one year?”

Of course, not all good intentions are realised. People decide to look for interesting vacancies. But when the first full working weeks come around and the workload increases, those beautiful ambitions are more often not realised than they are. People who are latent job seekers are known to have dormant ambitions that they do not actively work on. But if they happen to come across that one interesting vacancy, this, combined with their new ambitions, leads to a greater willingness to look at this interesting vacancy.

It is an annual phenomenon. Every year we see that vacancies that are usually difficult to fill suddenly start to move in December and at the beginning of the new year. The key to success is to stimulate latent seekers with good content and to reach them in an environment where they are not busy with their work. Think of their social media timeline or the news apps on their mobile phone. It therefore pays as an employer to take the leap forward around the holidays and focus on extra visibility for your vacancies.

In short; extra visibility in the festive month of December is definitely a good idea! There is movement in the labor market and you will reap the benefits of that at the beginning of the new year!
